CEC Standby Power Workshop

August 26, 2002

Additional information about the workshop will be posted as it become available.

Letter of Invitation

Dear Colleagues interested in standby power,

Please reserve August 26 (Monday) 2002 for a one-day workshop on standby power.

The California Energy Commission (CEC) is investigating how to reduce standby power and is supporting an Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) effort to identify issues, needs, and opportunities. This investigation could expand into a large, multi-year effort with significant funding levels.

The August 26 workshop will address a number of questions, including, "What technical changes or market strategies will reduce standby power?" and "How should California most effectively invest to reduce standby power?" The goal of the workshop is to first review the energy saving potential from reducing standby (and possibly other low-power modes) and then recommend the most effective strategies to achieve that potential. The CEC is interested in all strategies, from research to market transformation.

The workshop will be held in the Berkeley, California area. We will be providing further details soon and will also post them at http://standby.lbl.gov/cec_workshop.

Please contact Karen Sharp, at Karen.Sharp@ucop.edu (Tel 510-287-3321), or Alan Meier, at akmeier@lbl.gov if you have any questions or suggestions. Please RSVP to Karen Sharp if you plan to attend.
